ABOUT

  • Richard Haskin- biography
  • Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1952, Richard has lived most of his life in the city of Dearborn. As the suburb is the hometown of Henry Ford, it is not surprising that he is a third generation employee of the Ford Motor Research and Engineering Center. In fact, his grandfather was a clay modeler and was sometimes invited to lunch by the company founder, Henry Ford.
  • The most influential experiences throughout Richard’s life came from world travel; the study and practice of Transcendental Meditation and Vedic studies; studying in Provence, France; learning to dance the Argentine Tango in Michigan, Costa Rica, and in Buenos Aires; fatherhood; and his involvement with Italian culture.
  • When he began to study photography in the 1980s, his favorite photographers were Man Ray and Jacques-Henri Lartigue. Later, in Paris, he met Man Ray’s widow, Juliet, and was invited to visit the photographer’s studio. The time spent touring and studying in France left many impressions on Haskin. European lifestyle appealed to him, and he began developing awareness about the images he would continue to photograph for years, especially in architecture and portraiture.
  • Marriage, parenthood, and career development at Ford Motor Company left little time for photography from 1990 until 2000. Then, once again single, he rediscovered his passion to create photographic images. Although years before, Richard continually took classes in art (including pottery) and foreign language for the pleasure of learning, he returned to Wayne State University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008. His degree concentration was in fine art photography, with a minor in French.
  • With his passion for Italian art and culture, Haskin became the Cultural Chair for the Dante Alighieri Society- Michigan Chapter for five years. For several years, he was also an organizing member of the Italian Film Festival U.S.A., Detroit-Ann Arbor. Currently, he is the event photographer for the Italian American Alliance for Business and Technology.
  • Richard is also a co-founder of the DETUR (a Detroit-Turin exchange initiative) project, using Culture and the Arts, to expand economic opportunities between the two cities.
  • Quando inizio’ a studiare fotografia negli anni Ottanta, i suoi fotografi preferiti e modelli erano Man Ray e Jacques-Henri Lartigue.
Attualmente e’ il fotografo ufficiale dell’organizzazione “Italian American Alliance for Business and Technology”.
